Research & Development Intern
BHJ A/S digest are the proud producer of palatants to the petfood industry. Palatants are food acceptance improvers and have the purpose to make dry pet food more appealing towards the pet by having a great smell. In BHJ we mainly produce digest from chicken viscera, but also many other raw materials depending on the costumer’s demands.
Primary tasks
In the research and development department of BHJ digest we are eager to expand our knowledge and generate new procedures to help support the work in the department.
The hydrolysis project aims to be a knowledge project with many outputs to be used in future projects. A combination of thorough literature research, method development, hands on experimental trials in the laboratory and documentation will be needed to successfully carry out this project.
Problem to be assessed
At the laboratory at BHJ digest we have a broad variety of enzymes which we would like to obtain more information about. Furthermore, it is desired to develop a standard method when receiving enzymes, to assess if the enzyme has the necessary effect on the raw material.
Project boundaries
The project is limited to only focusing on the hydrolysis of chicken liver. The project will be focusing on the following:
- method development
- method optimization
- conducting experiments in the laboratory
- comparing results and evaluating enzyme activity
- creating various SOP’s for future use
Desired project outcome
- SOP for receival of new enzymes.
- SOP for usage of spectrophotometer
- Standard method for testing hydrolysis degree
- White paper with specific information on hydrolysis degree
- White paper with general information on enzymes
